Adamawa Tragedy: Family Members Be@t 60-Year-Old Woman to De@th Over Witchcraft Allegation

Residents of Digino, Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State, were thrown into mourning after a 60-year-old woman, Dudu Umaru, was tragically be@ten to de@th by her own relatives over allegations of witchcraft.

According to reports, her younger brother, his son, and their nephew stormed her home on August 26, accusing her of casting a spell on a teenage girl named Aisha. They assaulted her with sticks, leaving her with severe injuries that eventually claimed her life.

The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the heartbreaking incident. Spokesperson SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje said the three suspects admitted to attacking Dudu, claiming they only intended to be@t her, not to k!ll her, but also confessed to burning her house afterward.

One of the suspects, 50-year-old farmer Bello Usman, who is Dudu’s younger brother, narrated how fear and superstition pushed him into the deadly act. He said his daughter, Aisha, suddenly fell ill, and after administering traditional medication, she allegedly mentioned Dudu’s name, accusing her of trying to take her life through witchcraft.

“I became furious,” Bello recounted. “I went to Dudu’s house with my son and nephew. We beat her with a stick and left her unconscious. Later, I heard she had died after we were arrested.”

When asked why he never sought medical help for his daughter, Bello admitted that he relied on traditional incantations instead. “I regret my actions now, knowing Dudu was my cousin. Fear made me do it, but it was a terrible mistake.”

The community has been left in shock, with many condemning the act and calling for justice while also reflecting on how deeply rooted beliefs in witchcraft still destroy families and communities in rural areas.
