The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has made it clear that it will first explore a consensus option in choosing its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
The party, however, said it won’t hesitate to conduct competitive primaries if those seeking the ticket fail to agree on a common candidate. Speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, explained that ADC is more focused on building strong nationwide structures rather than being distracted by zoning debates or early presidential declarations.
“Atiku says he will run, Obi says he will run, Amaechi says he will run—none of that stops anyone else,” Abdullahi said. “For us, leadership is about knowing what to do and when to do it. We will encourage consensus, but if it doesn’t work, we’ll go for competitive primaries. What matters now is creating a solid fighting structure, not rushing into zoning politics.”
It would be recalled that both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have already zoned their presidential tickets to the South ahead of 2027.
