The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, Alhaji Bello Isiyaku-Keegan, has publicly denied that former Senator Abubakar Gada was ever a registered member of the party. He made this clarification while addressing journalists in Sokoto on Monday.
Isiyaku-Keegan stressed that joining a political party is a formal and verifiable process that requires proper registration and documentation in official party records. According to him, Gada’s name has never appeared in any ADC register at the ward, local government, or state level.
He noted that Gada, who represented Sokoto East Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), did not complete any membership process with the ADC at any time. The chairman described the situation as disturbing, especially considering Gada’s political profile and past representation in the National Assembly.
“The ADC finds it regrettable and curious that such a false claim was made and circulated publicly,” Isiyaku-Keegan said. He added that it was unfortunate for a politician of Gada’s status to make such a statement despite knowing he never registered with the party.
The ADC chairman also clarified that neither Senator Aminu Tambuwal nor Gada had registered with the ADC. He described Gada’s claim as careless political communication that does not reflect honesty, accountability, or respect for the electorate.
He reaffirmed that the ADC remains committed to building a credible political platform based on integrity, inclusiveness, internal democracy, and people-oriented governance.
Meanwhile, reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) indicate that Gada, described as a key figure in an ADC coalition, recently announced his return to the PDP. He reportedly cited evolving political realities and structural challenges within the coalition as reasons for his decision, with a focus on rebuilding the PDP in Sokoto State ahead of the 2027 elections.
