Osun State is set to witness a landmark event as Governor Ademola Adeleke prepares to lead the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, to inaugurate the academic takeoff of Minaret University in Ikirun. The institution, owned by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, is beginning its first academic session with high-profile traditional and religious leaders in attendance.
The event will also feature the formal investiture of the university’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul Rahman Abdullah. This ceremony marks a significant step for the faith-based institution as it positions itself within Nigeria’s expanding private university landscape.
According to a statement issued by Dr Qasim Akinreti, Media Lead of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Nigeria, Minaret University is built on values that promote global peace and interfaith harmony. The presence of both the Ooni and the Sultan underscores the university’s broader message of unity across religious and cultural lines.
Barrister Alatoye Azeez Folorunso, the Amir of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat of Nigeria and Chancellor of the university, is expected to formally present the Vice-Chancellor to the academic community and residents of Ikirun. This introduction symbolizes the university’s intention to build strong ties with its host community from the outset.
Minaret University was among the new private universities granted operational licences by the Nigerian government last year. Its establishment adds to the growing number of private higher institutions in Osun State and reflects the increasing role of faith-based organizations in Nigeria’s education sector.
With its official academic launch, the university begins a new chapter aimed at combining education, moral values, and community engagement, while contributing to the broader development of learning in the state and the country.
