Adeleke Vows to Complete Osun Projects Despite Opposition’s Attempt to Block Funds

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his commitment to completing all ongoing infrastructure projects across the state, despite what he described as deliberate efforts by the opposition to frustrate his administration by withholding state funds.

The governor made this known on Wednesday during an on-the-spot inspection of the Lagere flyover and other ongoing infrastructure projects in Ile-Ife. Addressing a jubilant crowd, Adeleke stated that his government’s focus on upgrading infrastructure in Ile-Ife and other major towns was driven by a vision to accelerate economic development and improve the quality of life for residents.

According to him, Ile-Ife, being the global cultural capital of the Yoruba people, deserves the best in infrastructure. He criticized previous administrations for neglecting the ancient city and pledged that his government would not repeat the mistakes of the past. “We must think big, aim high, and deliver the best services to our people,” Adeleke said passionately.

The governor alleged that nearly ₦100 billion of Osun State’s funds had been unjustly seized in what he described as a political plot to derail development projects, including the Ile-Ife flyover, Ilesa dualization, and Iwo township road. Despite these setbacks, he vowed to push forward, emphasizing that “Osun money must serve the Osun people.”

Adeleke further warned contractors and government officials against delivering substandard work or abandoning projects, stressing that his administration was determined to make history by completing every project it started. “We rejected private enrichment at the expense of our people,” he said. “Our mantra remains clear—state money for state development.”

Responding during the visit, the site engineer, Michael Adebiyi, assured the governor that the Lagere flyover would be completed before December 2025, adding that the project team was fully committed to meeting its deadline.

Adeleke’s visit and firm stance have rekindled optimism among residents, many of whom see the ongoing projects as a new dawn for Osun’s infrastructure and economic transformation.
