Relief has finally returned to the town of Lafiagi in Kwara State as Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Gaskiya—popularly known as “Alhaji Chemical”—regained his freedom after spending over a month in the hands of kidnappers. The prominent agrochemical dealer and CEO of Gaskiya Agrochemical was released on July 30, 2025, exactly 31 days after his abduction sent shockwaves through the entire Kwara North region.
According to a family member who spoke with NupekoTV-Lafiagi under strict anonymity, Alhaji Chemical’s release was allegedly secured after a hefty ransom of ₦30 million was paid. While authorities have yet to confirm the payment officially, sources close to the family say the transaction was made quietly to avoid further endangering his life.
Alhaji Chemical was kidnapped from his residence in the Taiwo area of Lafiagi on the night of June 29. Eyewitnesses recalled how the armed attackers arrived on motorcycles and quickly overpowered the local vigilante team with more sophisticated weapons. Many believe it was a targeted operation, carefully planned and executed.
His abduction sparked panic across the Edu Local Government Area, with residents expressing fear over the growing boldness of kidnappers in Kwara North. Community leaders and youth groups have since raised alarms over the deteriorating security situation and the need for urgent government intervention.
Now that Alhaji Chemical is free, the community is breathing a sigh of relief—but the scars remain. His ordeal has once again highlighted the fragile state of security in parts of Kwara, where high-profile abductions and violent attacks are becoming all too frequent.
Residents are now renewing calls to security agencies to step up and protect lives and livelihoods, especially in rural areas where help is often too far away. For now, the town is grateful to have one of its own back—but the fear of “who’s next?” still hangs heavily in the air.
