Akpabio Dismisses Sister-in-Law’s Allegations as Youths Demand Investigation into “Baseless Claims”

Senate President Godswill Akpabio and youth groups from his Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District have dismissed recent allegations by his sister-in-law, Princess Pat Akpabio, describing them as an “attention-seeking stunt.”

Princess Pat, in a viral video, accused Akpabio of incompetence as Senate President and alleged involvement in killings during his tenure as Akwa Ibom governor. She also threatened to expose more “secrets” if he failed to address her claims and announced her intention to contest against him in the 2027 elections.

The remarks have stirred controversy in Akwa Ibom, with many describing the feud as a family dispute rooted in power and personal interests. However, the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Youth Coalition, led by Chief Umo Assiak, has urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to probe the allegations and compel Princess Pat to provide evidence.

Assiak said the coalition would also petition the U.S. government to ensure she returns to Nigeria to substantiate her claims. He condemned the allegations as an attempt to tarnish Akpabio’s reputation, stressing that social media must not become a tool for blackmail or defamation.

In his reaction, Akpabio’s spokesperson, Eseme Eyiboh, questioned why such serious accusations were made online instead of through legal channels. He noted that issues as grave as murder allegations should be reported to law enforcement for proper investigation, not aired on social media for attention.

Eyiboh emphasized that whoever makes an allegation must be ready to prove it, insisting that Akpabio remains focused on his national duties and will not be distracted by what he termed “baseless online theatrics.”
