Anambra Assembly Suspends PDP Lawmaker Over ‘Damaging’ Social Media Post

The Anambra State House of Assembly has suspended Bernard Udemezue, the member representing Ayamelum Constituency, for a period of three months.

Udemezue, elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was accused of sharing what the House described as “damaging content” on social media. In his post, he alleged that his constituency had been sidelined when it came to constituency allowance.

Following the viral post, the Assembly first summoned him during last Tuesday’s plenary, after a motion of urgent public importance was raised by Tony Muobike of Aguata 2 Constituency and seconded by Chief Whip Jude Ngobili of Ihiala 1 Constituency.

Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze referred the issue to the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges for review. At Tuesday’s sitting, the committee’s report led to a resolution suspending Udemezue for three months.
