The Anambra State Executive Council has approved eleven major contracts valued at approximately ₦4.443 billion, aimed at strengthening infrastructure and improving public facilities across the state. The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, announced the approvals after the council meeting in Awka.
Dr. Mefor also disclosed that the council approved ₦87.168 million as the annual insurance premium for the new Government House (Light House), Awka. The asset insurance will run under a five-year long-term agreement.
According to the breakdown, ₦171.48 million was approved for the modification and completion of the abandoned court building and upgrades within the Court of Appeal Complex, Awka. Another ₦330.5 million is earmarked for the rehabilitation of failed sections of Court Road and Obunagu Road in the Awka metropolis.
The council also approved ₦443.4 million for the supply and installation of fire-fighting equipment at the College of Nursing Sciences, Umueze-Isuofia, Aguata LGA. Additionally, ₦297.9 million will go toward supplying and installing new furniture at the Government House Theatre and Multi-Purpose Hall at the Light House.
A further ₦346.87 million was allocated for the rehabilitation of failed portions of St. Thomas Aquinas Road, GRA Awka, including Min of Lands–Ekwulobia Street and Chief Abose Ejeagwu Lane. The EXCO also approved ₦85.3 million for the installation of a 32KVA solar power system at the Country Club of Solution Fun City, Awka.
One of the largest approvals—₦1.77 billion—is for the construction of the Ikenga-Isuofia-Igboukwu discharge channel, a major flood control and drainage project.
Other newly awarded projects include the Solution Park & Pay Garage at Ekwulobia, featuring an office building, gate house, toilet facility, concrete flooring, park gazebo with solar stands, benches, and perimeter fencing, costing ₦90.45 million.
The council also approved ₦476.3 million for electricity extension to Iyiora Anam Community and Zion Ministry Psychiatric and Elderly Hospital, Aguleri. Furthermore, ₦240.25 million was allocated for installing a 3-way traffic light at Igwe Orizu Junction and a 4-way system at the Nnewi Roundabout—with pedestrian lights included at both locations.
