Anambra Govt Debunks Rumour of New Airport in Orumba

The Anambra State Government has dismissed claims that it is planning to construct another airport at Ndikelionwu in Orumba North Local Government Area. Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, described the reports as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard them.

Mefor explained that it made little sense to speculate about a second airport when the Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport in Umueri, Anambra East, was commissioned less than four years ago. He said the story was the handiwork of “anti-government individuals” trying to distract the public with baseless speculation.

He clarified that the rumour may have been triggered by the state’s recent site visit to the Anambra Mixed-use Industrial City (AMIC). According to him, while the project’s master plan includes long-term studies on transport systems such as railways and airports, no decision has been made on constructing an additional airport.

The commissioner added that the AMIC project spans 4,000 hectares and will host a pharmaceutical hub, a modern urban city, innovation centres, business districts, and housing clusters—all designed to drive industrialisation and sustainable growth. He stressed that if an airport or railway is eventually approved to support AMIC, the public will be informed through official channels.

Mefor urged residents to ignore unverified reports and rely only on government announcements for credible information on major projects in the state.
