Atiku’s Son-in-Law, Bashir Haske, Fires Back at EFCC Over ‘Wanted’ Notice

Bashir Abdullahi Haske, businessman and son-in-law to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s claim that he is evading arrest.

The EFCC recently declared him wanted over alleged multi-million-dollar money laundering linked to contracts involving the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). Funds were allegedly traced to accounts connected to him.

But in a statement through his media office, Haske dismissed the allegations as a politically motivated witch-hunt. He maintained that he has already honoured EFCC’s invitations, appeared before investigators, and provided both oral and documentary evidence to defend the legitimacy of his transactions.

Haske further alleged that the EFCC detained him unlawfully, denied him bail even after meeting stringent conditions, and kept him in custody until his health collapsed. He said he was only released when his deteriorating condition raised fears about his survival, and he is currently undergoing treatment.

“It is therefore shocking and disingenuous for EFCC to now claim I am ‘running away’ when they are well aware that my health crisis was precipitated by their own misconduct,” he stated.
