Tension gripped Ogbe and nearby communities in Kogi State on Friday following a fresh bandit attack along the Ogbe–Egbe axis. The incident has once again heightened fears among residents who regularly travel the rural road.
Reports say the attack occurred as a group of residents were travelling from Ogbe to Egbe to attend a wedding ceremony of an Ogbe indigene based in Egbe. While on the journey, they were ambushed by armed assailants at the boundary between Ogbe and Koro.
During the attack, one person was reportedly shot and immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment. Five other passengers were abducted by the attackers and taken into the surrounding bush.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the worsening security situation in the area, particularly on rural routes that residents depend on for social and economic activities. Community members are calling on relevant authorities to urgently step up security patrols and take decisive action to prevent further attacks.
