Tragedy struck Pindiga town in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State late Saturday night, as bandits attacked a private residence, killing two people, including a pregnant woman, and abducting two others. Residents told SaharaReporters that the victims included Prince Yusuf Derdoski and his pregnant sister, while the identities of the abducted siblings remain undisclosed.
Sources said the gunmen stormed the house under the cover of darkness, shooting indiscriminately before taking away the victims, leaving the community in deep mourning. Locals expressed fear and frustration over repeated security breaches in the area, highlighting ongoing vulnerability to bandit attacks.
Police authorities confirmed the incident. DSP Buhari Abdullahi, spokesperson for the Gombe State Police Command, stated that a distress call was received at 3:30 a.m., prompting the deployment of senior officers. Tactical and intelligence-led operations were immediately intensified, with hunters and local vigilante groups mobilised to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric, cruel and utterly unacceptable.” In a statement, his spokesperson Ismaila Uba Misilli said the incident was “a direct assault on our collective conscience” and directed security agencies to strengthen intelligence networks and community collaboration. The governor also condoled with the affected families and prayed for the safe return of the abducted siblings.
