Barrister Zubairu A. Bube of DM Abejeme & Partners has denied allegations linking him to a ₦4.6 billion fraud investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), calling the claims “false, malicious and calculated to malign my person and professional integrity.”
standarddailypress had reported on December 26, 2025, that fresh details emerged in the ongoing money laundering probe involving Bauchi State’s Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu. The allegations suggested that Muntaka Mohammed Duguri, a nephew of Governor Bala Mohammed, allegedly manipulated the judicial system to target a key EFCC witness, Ishaku Mohammed Aliyu.
Aliyu, Managing Director of I.S. Makayye Investment Resources Ltd, was reportedly represented by Bube. Sources claimed the lawyer later colluded with Duguri, deceiving his client and fabricating court documents. They further alleged that Bube received a Honda Accord as gratification for his involvement.
In his response, Bube admitted only to briefly representing Aliyu to secure bail after his alleged unlawful detention. He stressed that his role was strictly professional and that he never colluded with Duguri. “I bought and have been driving the said vehicle since July 2023 — long before I ever heard the name Muntaka Mohammed Duguri,” Bube said, noting he has documentary evidence to support this.
Bube also explained that Aliyu voluntarily informed him of all transactions, read and signed court documents dismissing insinuations of fabricated processes, and that any claims suggesting he deceived his client are “intellectually dishonest.”
Further, Bube revealed that Aliyu had shared with him alleged schemes by EFCC officers in Abuja to frame Duguri and Commissioner Adamu, which he refused to partake in, insisting on ethical conduct. He stated that the termination of his legal brief followed his refusal to engage in unlawful actions.
Bube said the rejoinder was necessary to correct the narrative portraying him as part of an alleged fraud scheme and to protect his professional reputation.
