Bayelsa United Team Bus Suffers Tyre Failure on Abuja Road, Players Escape Unhurt

Bayelsa United’s team bus was involved in a frightening incident on the Abuja road while travelling to Kano for their NPFL Matchday 22 clash against Barau FC.

Reports say one of the tyres came off while the vehicle was in motion, causing panic among players and officials on board. The driver, however, managed to regain control of the bus.

No lives were lost, and all members of the Bayelsa United contingent are reported safe, with no serious injuries recorded.

Officials are yet to announce alternative travel plans or how the incident may affect the team’s match preparations.

The scare has revived memories of a June 2025 tragedy when 22 members of the Kano State contingent died in a road accident while returning from the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta.

The bus had veered off the road and overturned near Dakatsalle, about 40km from Kano, leaving several others injured.

Reacting then, Nigeria Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko described the crash as “a very sad day for Nigerian sports,” saying the nation was heartbroken by the loss.
