Former federal lawmaker, Ben Murray-Bruce, who represented Bayelsa East Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), announcing his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement personally signed and shared via his Facebook page on Wednesday, the businessman and media executive praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing him as “the first President in Nigeria’s history who truly understands finance.” He commended Tinubu for steering the nation toward a deregulated, disciplined, and sustainable economy.
Murray-Bruce said the ongoing economic reforms, though painful, are laying the groundwork for long-term prosperity. “We are moving into a free-market economy, one that rewards hard work and innovation instead of dependency and distortion,” he stated, adding that Nigeria’s security, monetary policy, and infrastructure have witnessed notable improvements.
He highlighted the President’s achievements in areas such as national security, fuel deregulation, and infrastructural expansion, noting that these efforts are “quietly rebuilding confidence and restoring the dignity of the naira.”
“Today, I am joining the APC not for politics, but for progress,” Murray-Bruce declared. “I believe Bola Tinubu’s leadership, guided by courage and intellect, will deliver the Nigeria we have all dreamed of. In eight years, Nigeria will witness phenomenal growth.”
His defection came shortly after Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, and several members of his cabinet also dumped the PDP for the APC, marking a major political realignment in the South-South region.
