A devastating attack occurred on Friday, September 5, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m. along the Okpella-Agenebode road in Edo State.
Gunmen ambushed a convoy escorting a Chinese worker from BUA Cement Company, Okpella, resulting in the deaths of eight NSCDC personnel and one civilian driver. The attackers also kidnapped the Chinese national.
According to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), 12 personnel were on escort duty during the incident.
The deceased personnel were attached to the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Department. Among the fatalities is Chief Corps Assistant (CCA) Oluwatosin Sunday of the Ondo State Command.
The NSCDC has condemned the attack, describing the deaths as a “devastating blow.” The Corps has commiserated with the families of the deceased and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and national assets.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited in the mortuary. The NSCDC has saluted the gallantry of its officers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty.
