LAGOS — The family of prominent businessman, Otunba Olanrewaju Adenuga, has petitioned the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Moshood Jimoh, over the alleged forceful takeover of their property at No. 113, Awolowo Way, Ikeja, by suspected hoodlums. The family claims the gang has vandalised assets, issued death threats, and turned the property into a criminal hideout.
Through their lawyers, Brookgreen LP, the Adenugas accused nine suspects of storming the premises earlier this year, destroying fittings worth more than N2 million and carting away construction materials valued at N8 million. The invaders allegedly leased parts of the land to roadside traders and converted the site into a hub for illicit activities, including hemp smoking and alcohol gatherings.
The family further alleged that engineers sent to begin development were seized by the gang, with one suspect demanding ransom before their release. In another shocking demand, the alleged ringleader reportedly asked for N800,000 and yearly “gifts” of goats before he would vacate the land. The suspects, according to the family, also bragged about cult affiliations and threatened to kill Otunba Adenuga and his household.
In what the businessman described as a “chilling” encounter, he narrowly escaped an attack by the gang despite the presence of police officers, who were reportedly overpowered. “This is not just trespass but a sustained campaign of intimidation, theft, and attempted murder,” the family said.
The Adenugas are now urging the Lagos State Police Commissioner to order the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspects, warning that their continued presence on the property endangers both their safety and public order in Ikeja
