CACOL Calls for Police Probe Into Paystack Co-Founder Ezra Olubi Over Sexual Misconduct Allegations

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL) has urged Nigerian police to investigate Paystack co-founder Ezra Olubi following his suspension from the payments company over alleged sexual misconduct.

The controversy erupted after a woman, previously in a relationship with Olubi, aired grievances online, prompting scrutiny of old tweets dating back to 2009 and 2013. Some of these posts contained sexually suggestive remarks, including references to colleagues and minors. Olubi has since deactivated his X account.

Paystack confirmed that it has launched a formal investigation, suspending Olubi from all duties pending the outcome. “Out of respect for the individuals involved and to protect the integrity of the process, we will not be commenting further until the investigation is complete,” the company said.

CACOL Executive Director Debo Adeniran told Saturday PUNCH that the allegations raise serious moral and criminal concerns, especially if minors are involved. “A minor cannot, under the law, be held responsible for such encounters. This is a criminal offence, and the police should step in to ensure justice is done,” he said.

The revelations sparked widespread public debate, with many social media users questioning the balance between personal conduct and professional achievements, particularly in light of Olubi’s 2022 national honour. Presidential aide Gimba Kakanda noted that cultural narratives around ‘unconventional genius’ may have contributed to leniency toward such behaviour.

Public reactions ranged from condemnation of Olubi’s alleged actions to discussions on accountability, corporate responsibility, and the role of social media in exposing historic misconduct.
