A Nigerian caregiver, Oghenemaro Dave Ejerua, has been arrested in Canada over allegations of repeated assaults at a group home for vulnerable adults in East Toronto.
Toronto Police confirmed that the 38-year-old was taken into custody last week after an investigation into multiple reported incidents at the care facility. The group home, located in the East Toronto area, caters to adults who require daily support and supervision.
According to police, the alleged assaults are believed to have taken place between November 1 and November 30, 2025, within the period Ejerua was working at the home. Investigators say residents were allegedly assaulted on several occasions during that time.
Police officers were first alerted to the situation on the morning of December 10, 2025, following a call reporting possible assaults near Sibley and Dentonia Park avenues. After responding to the scene, authorities launched a full investigation into the matter.
As part of the probe, Toronto Police made a public appeal for information to help locate a suspect linked to the case. That effort eventually led to Ejerua’s arrest.
In a statement released on Monday, January 12, police announced that the caregiver has been formally charged with seven counts of assault. He is expected to appear in court at a later date.
Police stressed that the allegations are yet to be tested in court, and Ejerua remains innocent until proven guilty under Canadian law.
The case has drawn attention due to the sensitive nature of the setting involved, with authorities assuring the public that investigations into the safety and welfare of residents at the group home are ongoing.
