Carsten Schneider (SPD) has been Federal Minister for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety since the change of government last year.
THE TIME: Mr. Schneider, the US war against Iran drives up fuel prices. What do you think of a fuel discount?
Carsten Schneider: I can understand the desire, especially among people who have no reserves. But there is a great danger that the wrong people will benefit from this and short-term relief will not be passed on – as was the case with the last energy crisis in 2022. The cartel office is called upon to do this. We will now require gas stations to only increase prices once a day – and no longer an average of 20 times as before, which makes price comparisons unnecessarily difficult.
