CCM Endorses Hassan, Mwinyi For 2025 Tanzania Elections

TANZANIA’S ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), has formally endorsed President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Hussein Ali Mwinyi as its candidates for the Union and Zanzibar presidential elections, scheduled for October 2025. The decision was unanimously approved during the CCM National Congress held in Dodoma, underscoring the strong support from party delegates.

The endorsement was proposed by former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, who led the nation from 2005 to 2015. Kikwete’s announcement was met with enthusiastic chants and applause from the gathered delegates, reinforcing the overwhelming backing for Hassan and Mwinyi.

‘We have the authority to decide today that Samia and Mwinyi are our candidates,’ Kikwete stated, prompting another wave of applause. However, he also urged the Congress to ensure that the nomination process adheres to the legal framework to maintain the party’s integrity.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who assumed office in 2021 following the passing of President John Magufuli, is Tanzania’s first female president. Her tenure has focused on promoting economic reforms, enhancing international relations, and strengthening governance.

Hussein Mwinyi, the current President of Zanzibar, has also garnered praise for his efforts in fostering stability and economic growth in the semi-autonomous region.

The 2025 general elections will determine Tanzania’s next president and members of the National Assembly. The CCM’s early endorsement signals a unified front as the party aims to secure another term in power.

This strong show of support from CCM delegates reflects the party’s confidence in Hassan and Mwinyi’s leadership and their ability to steer the country towards continued development and progress.
