Chekwas Okorie Calls Igbo Leaders to Unite for 2027 and Beyond

Chekwas Okorie, the pioneer National Chairman and founder of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has called a gathering of prominent Igbo political leaders and elites to discuss how to better mobilize Ndigbo for the 2027 elections — and for the future beyond.

In his invitation letter to selected Igbo leaders, Okorie explained that after several consultations, it became clear that a cross-party meeting of leaders and stakeholders was necessary to deliberate on what should be the political agenda of Ndigbo in Nigeria, regardless of party lines.

He stressed that Ndigbo have been blessed with a huge population and wide geographical spread, yet these strengths have remained underutilized. “We have no excuse to lack relevance and the respect we deserve in this country,” he said, pointing out that this discussion must go beyond 2027.

Okorie emphasized the need to give younger generations a roadmap that will reverse the current “unacceptable situation” in a way that is sustainable. Under the banner of Igbo Agenda Dialogue, the meeting will be political in nature but strictly non-partisan, with several invitees already confirming attendance. The gathering is set to take place in Abuja before the end of August 2025.
