COUNTRY Women Association Of Nigeria, is a Non Governmental Organization founded in 1982, to support and enhance women’s participation in Agriculture.
Since inception , the organization has empowered more than 280 thousand women all across Nigeria, by supporting them with loans, organizing workshops to improve on their Agricultural skills, and leveraging on agricultural products and seeds to make it affordable for farming. Presently, the organization is training women on how to access and implement the latest Agricultural tools
The organization is also in partnership with Sterling Bank, this makes it easy for the women to access loans and expand their farms.
In line with other NGOs, the organization has three thematics which are, access to financial technology, this involves the use of Pin Tech like POS and O Pay to empower the women, access to finance , which includes project development and planning and access to health , which is contributing some amount of money to the National Health Insurance Scheme ( NHIS) to take care of their health issues
Addressing the women today in Asaba, the Delta State Coordinator of COWAN. Amb. Eris Jewo said , Delta State Chapter was inaugurated in Oct. 17 last year during the 41st year anniversary of the association
Speaking further, she said the workshop is for existing poultry farmers who have enough birds to breed, adding that the birds will be sold after six weeks of breeding. Also, beneficiaries are to deposit twenty percent of the money in their account before they have access to the birds
Amb. Eris Jewo Ibi maintained that the bank with some exco of the organization will develop a uniform business plan ,which will be implemented by members of the association. Also , interest rates for those who are within the age bracket of 18- 35 years will be 11-12. percent , while those who are between 35-55 years will be 20-22 percent
The workshop is for women and girls who are into poultry farming and the objective is to empower and encourage more women to embrace Agriculture. Subsequent workshops will be held for those in other thematics .
