Many companies are hoping for repayments from the US government after the tariff ruling. But the effort for them is high – and they fear political consequences.

The uncertainty is back. The promise of the customs deal between the two countries lasted almost seven months USA and the EU to be able to rely on each other’s word. And to a number: No more than 15 percent duty when importing most goods into the United States. Now that promise is gone, and from tonight there is a threat of tariffs that are significantly higher. The EU negotiator therefore decided on Monday afternoon to suspend the ratification of the agreement. “We had to put on the brakes. Anything else would have been negligent,” said the chairman of the European Parliament’s Trade Committee, Bernd Lange, after the decision. The EU needs clarity and legal certainty.
