Dangote Petitions ICPC, Seeks Probe of NMDPRA Boss Over Alleged Corruption

Business mogul and Chairman of Dangote Group, Dr Aliko Dangote, has petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), calling for an investigation into the Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.

In the petition, submitted on Tuesday through his legal team led by Dr Ogwu James Onoja, SAN, Dangote urged the anti-graft agency to arrest and prosecute Ahmed over allegations that he has been living far beyond his legitimate earnings as a public servant. He specifically alleged that the NMDPRA boss paid more than $7 million in tuition fees for four of his children attending schools in Switzerland.

Dangote claimed the fees were paid upfront for six years and listed the names of the children, their schools, and the amounts allegedly paid to support his claims. According to him, the funds were diverted through the NMDPRA for personal use, an action he said had sparked public protests and concern.

The industrialist argued that Ahmed had spent his entire career in Nigeria’s public sector and that his lawful earnings could not reasonably cover such expenses. He described the allegations as abuse of office, corrupt enrichment, and embezzlement, offences he said fall squarely within the ICPC’s powers to investigate and prosecute under the law.

Dangote called on the Commission to act decisively in the interest of transparency and public trust, stressing that the matter is already in the public domain. He also pledged to present evidence if invited by the ICPC, insisting that accountability is essential to protect the integrity of public institutions and the image of the current administration.
