Debbie Shokoya Opens Up on Converting to Islam After Marriage: “God Is Love, Humanity First”

Nollywood actress and producer, Debbie Shokoya, has shared that she embraced Islam after marriage, even though she was born and raised in a Christian family. She explained that her choice was deeply personal, centered on her connection with God and not influenced by societal expectations.

According to Shokoya, religion should never be treated as a competition, conflict, or debate, but rather as a way of life rooted in peace and compassion. She maintained that the essence of faith is not in labels but in love, humanity, and how people treat one another.

The actress also noted that she does not discriminate between religions. For her, the most important thing is worshipping God in the way she feels most comfortable, emphasizing that a genuine relationship with God outweighs external appearances or affiliations.

Shokoya, who shared her thoughts in a heartfelt Instagram post, wrote: “Christianity By Birth, Muslim By Marriage Over Here… God Is Love! Humanity Always. I Have Never Being A Discriminator Of Any Of The Religion… I Speak To My God The Way I Am Comfortable With, My Relationship With God Is What Matters The Most And How I Treat My Fellow Human.”

She concluded by stressing that faith should not cause division but should promote love and unity. “It’s Not A War, It’s Not A Competition. Neither Is It A Debate… Preach Love And Act In Love First. No Matter The Religion, No Matter The Color, No Matter The Tribe!!! Love Comes First Because God Is Love.”
