Dele Momodu: Tinubu Has the South on Lock Ahead of 2027

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and publisher, Dele Momodu, has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu already has the southern region of Nigeria under his control ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Breakfast Central on News Central TV, Momodu argued that there is currently no formidable figure from the North capable of challenging Tinubu if the race is restricted to southern candidates. He warned that zoning the PDP ticket to the South would only hand Tinubu a clear advantage.

According to him, Tinubu has already “locked down” the South by strategically weakening opposition structures in key states like Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers. “Fubara is neither here nor there,” he said, noting that even if the Rivers governor realigns, he would still be forced to “tow the line.”

Momodu further alleged that Tinubu’s influence is steadily spreading across other southern states, a situation he described as state capture. He accused governors and politicians seeking re-election of deliberately avoiding open opposition to the president.

“When did Nigeria degenerate to the point where people are afraid to speak truth to power?” he asked. “So just because our friend is president today, it means all of us must become timid and nobody wants to talk?”
