Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has stirred fresh political tension by alleging that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has effectively been taken over by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking during an interview on Politics Today aired by Channels Television, Melaye didn’t mince words when he declared: “PDP has been purchased by the APC.”
The outspoken politician claimed that the PDP, once Nigeria’s leading opposition party, now functions like an appendage of the presidency. He alleged that even the scheduling of key meetings like the National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Working Committee (NWC) now depends on directives from the Aso Rock Villa.
Melaye’s comments came just a day after he submitted his resignation from the PDP, a move many saw coming after months of internal wrangling and public criticisms of the party’s leadership. He also took a swipe at PDP governors, accusing them of abandoning their role as opposition figures.
The claims have yet to be addressed officially by either party, but they’ve reignited concerns over the state of opposition politics in Nigeria.
