Retired Major General Ijioma Nwokoro Ijioma has issued a strong warning to Peter Obi, urging him not to fall into what he describes as a political trap by returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking during Ikengaonline’s July town hall meeting, the retired general said Obi’s interests cannot be protected in a PDP that, in his words, now “idolizes” the likes of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike—whose loyalty, he said, leans more toward the ruling APC.
Gen. Ijioma didn’t mince words, describing the PDP as a political “carcass” and warning that a return would expose Obi to sabotage. He also cautioned him against staying in any coalition—like the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—if he’s not assured of a clear presidential ticket, urging him instead to move to any party where he can secure the 2027 candidacy.
According to Ijioma, Obi remains Nigeria’s most nationally accepted presidential hopeful, admired especially by frustrated masses bearing the brunt of APC’s prolonged governance. He stressed that Nigerians would follow Obi to any political platform because they believe in his integrity and leadership capacity.
Calling on Ndigbo at home and abroad to rally behind Obi, he echoed the sentiment once shared by former President Obasanjo: that Nigeria is overdue for a president of Igbo extraction. In Ijioma’s words, “Peter Obi is the only candidate today who can truly take Nigeria out of the woods.”
