The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed the arrest of two former officers, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, for allegedly impersonating the agency and engaging in fraudulent activities.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the DSS revealed that both men, who had previously been dismissed, continued to “cloak under the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.” The agency stated that their arrest follows earlier public disclaimers warning Nigerians about their illegal actions.
According to the DSS, the duo has been taken into custody and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. “The public is hereby notified that these culprits have been apprehended and will face prosecution,” the statement read.
The agency also announced plans to publish the names of other previously dismissed officers to protect citizens from falling victim to similar scams. “The Service has resolved to publish the names of other dismissed personnel to prevent citizens from falling prey to possible criminal intent,” it added.
Earlier this month, the DSS had issued separate warnings about both Donald and Godwin, cautioning Nigerians to avoid any dealings with them. The agency urged the public to verify anyone claiming to represent the DSS to avoid being deceived by impostors.
