Ebonyi: Governor Nwifuru sacks all Amasiri appointees after Okporojo killings

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has dismissed all government appointees from the Amasiri community following the brutal killing of four people from Okporojo village in Oso Edda. Those removed include the State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Amari Omaka, other management committee members, traditional rulers, town union presidents, and village heads.

During an on-the-spot visit, the governor described the attack as a tragic escalation of a longstanding boundary dispute, despite previous reconciliation attempts. He announced the immediate dissolution of the Amasiri Development Union executive, the withdrawal of the traditional ruler’s certificate, and the removal of all village heads across Amasiri autonomous communities.

Governor Nwifuru urged residents of Okporojo to remain calm, assuring them of government support. He pledged to return within a year to ensure measurable improvements in security and development. He commended the security agencies, including the police, army, and NSCDC, for their extraordinary efforts in tracking the perpetrators.

The governor emphasized that his administration does not take sides in communal conflicts and warned the Amasiri community that violence will only worsen their challenges. He stressed that only truth can bring peace, stability, and prosperity to the families and communities involved.
