… As Owan West FC shines, defeats Owan East FC with 1 goal
Holy Trinity Grammar School sports ground, in Sabongida-Ora, the Administrative headquarters of Owan West Local Government, Edo State was a beehive of sporting activities as the Edo Speaker was declared open with a kick-off in a grand style by the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku.
The Speaker at the opening ceremony of the one-week-long football tournament, addressing the dignitaries and spectators shortly after playing along with Owan West FC, disclosed that the event was a very unique one for him in particular, as it will unite the teeming Edo youths and also help in identifying football talents.
He said, “The competition aims at promoting unity, love, and extending the spirit of oneness among the good people of Edo State in particular and Nigeria at large.
“I congratulate all the participating teams and the Local Organizing Committee for their efforts.
The opening ceremony was well attended by Honourable Members of the State Assembly: Hon. (Barr) Eric Okaka (EDHA Minority Leader), Hon. Atu Osanwonyi (Deputy Chief Whip), Hon. Gani Akokhia (Etsako West 2), Hon. Waziri Oshiomah (Etsako Central), Hon. Omosigho Uyi Frank (Oredo East), Hon. Donald Okogbe (Akoko-Edo 2) and Hon. Kingsley Ugabi (Estako East).
Owan West and East Council Chairmen, Hon. Dickson Ahonsi and Hon. Prince Aminu Okodo-Kadiri, joined by their Council functionaries were fully present at the sports event. Super Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Barr Johnson Abolagba was in attendance.
The Chief of Staff to Edo Speaker, Sir (Hon.) ODK Iruobe, Mr. Peter Enahoro Marshall, Speaker’s SSAs, SAs, sports lovers, and a host of others were present.
The opening football tournament between Owan West FC and Owan East FC, ended 1:0 in favour of Owan West FC, with the Speaker of the Assembly scoring the winning goal.
The tournament continues tomorrow at Holy Trinity Grammar School field, Sabongidda-Ora, in Owan West LGA, Edo State.
