The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Dickson Akon, and the organisation’s Director of Finance, Omolola Aminat Ahmed, before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja over allegations of misappropriating N60 million belonging to the Corps.
The duo appeared before Justice H. B. Yusuf on Thursday, December 11, 2025, after being brought in by the EFCC’s Abuja Zonal Directorate. They are facing a two-count charge involving conspiracy and dishonest conversion of funds allocated to the organisation.
According to the EFCC, both defendants allegedly conspired in 2024 to commit criminal misappropriation, an offence said to violate Section 96 of the Penal Code Law of the FCT. One of the charges states that they “agreed among themselves to do an illegal act, to wit: criminal misappropriation,” which is punishable under the law.
The second charge accuses Akon and Ahmed of dishonestly converting N46 million out of N60 million that had been approved for a contract to supply badges to the Corps, allegedly diverting the funds for personal use.
Both defendants, however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them in court. Following their plea, prosecution counsel Khalid Sanusi requested a date for the commencement of trial.
Justice Yusuf adjourned the matter to February 25, 2026, and granted the defendants bail in the sum of ₦5 million each. The court also directed that each defendant must present one surety of reputable character residing in Abuja.
