Eight Yahoo Boys Jailed in Benin Over Internet Fraud

Eight internet fraudsters have been convicted and sentenced by Justice M. Itsueli of the Edo State High Court, Benin City, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. The convicts include Friday Osamudiamenwen, Monday Moses, Wisdom Idahosa, Osazuwa Oghomwen, Christopher Victor, Odion Desmond Osas, Monday Louis Adagboyin, and Bright Ogbiede.

They were arraigned by the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on separate one-count charges, ranging from advance fee fraud to obtaining by false pretence, retention of proceeds of crime, and possession of fraudulent documents. All eight defendants pleaded guilty when the charges were read to them.

Justice Itsueli handed down varying sentences: some of the convicts received two years in prison with options of fines ranging from ₦100,000 to ₦300,000. In addition, all their mobile phones, laptops, and illicit funds traced to their accounts were forfeited to the federal government.

The court also ordered them to sign undertakings of good behaviour going forward. Their arrest followed credible intelligence that revealed their involvement in cyber fraud schemes, marking the beginning of their journey to prison.
