Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command’s SWAT team have arrested 27-year-old Desmond Obodo Chilota during a routine patrol in Uwani, Enugu, recovering a substantial quantity of restricted tramadol from him. The suspect, disguised as a dispatch rider, was transporting the drugs on a red Kymco motorcycle, which was also seized.
In a separate incident on the same morning, police recovered an abandoned bag containing substances suspected to be crystal methamphetamine, locally called “Mkpuru-mmiri,” along with an Android phone at Onu-Asata, Ogui. The suspects reportedly fled upon seeing the officers.
SP Daniel Ndukwe, the state police spokesperson, confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, while the arrested individual and all recovered items are under further investigation. Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations and urged residents to remain vigilant and supportive in the fight against crime.
