Enugu Police to Enforce Tinted Glass Permit, Ban Unauthorized Sirens from October 2

The Enugu State Police Command has announced that starting Thursday, October 2, it will begin a fresh enforcement exercise targeting vehicles with tinted glasses, unauthorized sirens, revolving lights, and unregistered cars across the state.

Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, explained in a statement on Tuesday that the move is in line with existing laws and will be carried out professionally. He emphasized that the rule applies to all vehicles with tinted glasses, whether factory-fitted or otherwise.

According to him, motorists who want to keep their tinted glasses must apply for a permit via possap.gov.ng and then visit the State Intelligence Department (SID) at the Police Headquarters in Enugu for physical verification. Those unwilling to obtain the permit are advised to remove the tints or replace them with transparent glasses as required by law.

The Command also revealed that it will clamp down on unauthorized use of sirens, revolving lights, Police SPY plates, unallocated official number plates, and unregistered vehicles. This is part of a wider effort to restore order and sanity on Enugu roads.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, directed his officers to handle the enforcement with professionalism and warned against harassment or extortion of motorists. He further stressed that any officer caught misbehaving will be sanctioned, while their supervising officer will also be held accountable.

The CP appealed to motorists to cooperate fully with officers during the exercise and report any case of misconduct to the Police Complaints Response Unit (CRU) through 09160002486, 07059160602, 08176155557, or via WhatsApp/SMS to 09160002486.
