Enugu South Advocates Dump PDP, Join APC with Governor Mbah in Landmark Political Shift

ABUJA — Political tides are shifting in Enugu as the Enugu South Advocates, one of the state’s largest political pressure groups, officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. The mass defection, announced on Wednesday, marks a major realignment in a state long regarded as a PDP stronghold.

Addressing journalists after the announcement, the group’s leader, Hon. Uche Kelvin Edeh, said the move came after “deep reflection” on the state’s future and a desire to align with the federal government for accelerated development. He praised Governor Mbah’s leadership, describing it as “visionary and results-driven.”

“With formidable infrastructure and people-oriented policies, there is no doubt Enugu State is on the path of progress,” Edeh said, emphasizing that joining the APC was both a strategic and developmental choice. He cited “visible changes” in governance and stronger collaboration with the federal government as key motivations behind the group’s decision.

He further commended Governor Mbah’s administration for prioritizing technology and youth empowerment, saying, “The governor’s commitment to equipping young people with tech-driven skills reflects the realities of today’s economy, where innovation powers growth.”

The defection is seen as a major boost for the APC’s efforts to expand its influence in the South-East. Analysts say it could reshape political alliances in the region and signal a broader movement toward cooperation with the ruling party at the federal level.

As more groups and political figures shift allegiance, Enugu’s political landscape appears poised for a dramatic transformation ahead of the next election cycle.
