There was tension in the Ibom Isii community of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Abia State, after Mrs. Chinelo, wife of a former traditional ruler, was paraded by villagers for allegedly engaging in fetish activities.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, when the woman was reportedly caught burying charms in a compound within the community.
Videos recorded by residents showed Mrs. Chinelo, dressed in a red wrapper, being paraded barefoot around the villages by a large crowd of locals — about 200 people — who sang, drummed, and played traditional instruments as they escorted her.
In the viral clips, she was seen holding a small plate said to contain the charms she was accused of burying. Some community members claimed this was not her first controversy, alleging that she had once been sent away from her husband’s home over accusations of infidelity.
After being paraded through the community, sources said she was handed over to the elders’ council to explain her actions or prove her innocence.
However, another villager claimed the woman had already confessed to the act when she was first apprehended, describing it as “an abomination in our land.”
Throughout the public humiliation, Mrs. Chinelo remained silent, walking calmly and clutching the alleged charms as the villagers followed her through the streets.
