Ex-NNPCL Boss Mele Kyari Quizzed by EFCC Over $7.2bn Refinery Probe

Former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, on Wednesday honoured an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

Kyari arrived at the commission’s headquarters around 2:15pm, where he was grilled on financial and technical dealings that took place during his tenure.

His visit comes amid heightened scrutiny, as the EFCC had earlier placed him on a watchlist while probing the controversial $7.2 billion refineries’ turnaround maintenance project.

Adding to the pressure, the Federal High Court in Abuja recently ordered the temporary freezing of four bank accounts linked to Kyari over alleged fraud, further tightening the spotlight on the former NNPCL chief.
