IN reaction to the Super Eagles’ 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday, former Nigerian captain Joseph Yobo expressed his lack of conviction.
The decisive moment of the game came in the 37th minute when Opa Sangante inadvertently scored an own goal.
Securing the three points allowed the Super Eagles to advance to the last 16 as runners-up from Group A.
Yobo, speaking on AfroSport, expressed his reservations, stating: “It was not a convincing victory, despite obtaining the desired result. The team still lacks cohesion, particularly in the midfield.
“Although we have more attacking players than midfielders, once Iwobi is back, I am confident that the team will create more goal-scoring opportunities.
“In my opinion, keeping a clean sheet is another positive outcome from today’s game, indicating that the defense is performing well.”
