Explosion Rocks Steel Factory in China, Leaves Dead, Injured and Missing

A deadly explosion rocked a steel factory in China’s Inner Mongolia region on Sunday, leaving two people dead and dozens injured. The blast happened at a plate production plant owned by Baogang United Steel in Baotou City at about 3 p.m., according to the city’s emergency management bureau.

Authorities confirmed that 66 people were taken to hospital, with at least three reported to be in serious condition. Five workers are still missing as rescue teams continue searching the site. Witnesses in nearby areas said the explosion sent thick smoke into the sky and caused noticeable tremors that shook surrounding buildings.

Emergency responders were quickly deployed to the scene to attend to the injured and secure the area. Officials said rescue operations are ongoing, while investigations have begun to determine what caused the explosion.

So far, the identities of the victims have not been released. The incident has raised fresh concerns about safety standards at large industrial facilities, especially in heavily industrialised regions like Baotou. Authorities say more details will be shared as the situation becomes clearer.
