Family members of the 16 military officers accused of involvement in a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu are appealing for leniency.
According to Daily Trust, families are reaching out to top politicians and government officials, asking that justice be tempered with mercy. The officers, detained since October 2025, are awaiting court-martial after being found guilty by the military high command.
One family member said: “We know the offence is serious under military law, but these are our loved ones, and we can’t afford to lose them now. We appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to temper justice with mercy. We are not asking for impunity, just that their lives be spared.”
