FCT Police Smash “One Chance” Gang, Arrest Six, Rescue Victim After High-Speed Chase

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command says it has dismantled a notorious “one chance” robbery syndicate, arresting six suspects, killing one, and rescuing a victim during a daring operation.

Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh disclosed on Saturday that the breakthrough came on August 6, 2025, when Anti-One Chance Unit operatives spotted a woman, later identified as Angel Patrick, being pushed out of a moving vehicle along Kubwa Expressway at about 8:30 a.m.

While one police team rushed the badly injured victim to Zankwochi Hospital in Mabushi for emergency treatment, another team of undercover officers pursued the fleeing gang to the Aso area of Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

A hot chase and gunfight ensued, forcing the criminals to a stop. Five suspects — Jude Simon of Mararaba, Emmanuel Akor, Daniel Benson, Uche Thomas, and Tope Ola, all residents of Mpape — were arrested at the scene. Their dark grey Toyota Corolla, used for the robberies, was recovered.

One suspect was shot during the exchange of fire and later confirmed dead at Asokoro General Hospital.

Police investigations revealed that one of the suspects, John Simon, had previously been arrested in December 2024 for the same crime and remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre.

Recovered items included six ATM cards belonging to previous victims, a jackknife, ₦115,000 in cash, and other personal belongings.

The suspects confessed to operating as “one chance” robbers for several years.

Commending his officers for their bravery, FCT Commissioner of Police pledged to rid the capital of criminal gangs and urged residents to only board vehicles from approved motor parks.
