The Federal Government has restated its firm commitment to upholding religious freedom and promoting tolerance among Nigerians, following a recent statement from the United States of America on the state of religious liberty in the country.
In a press release signed by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the government emphasized its unwavering resolve to combat violent extremism and safeguard the rights of all citizens, regardless of their faith or background.
Mr. Ebienfa noted that the Nigerian government deeply mourns the victims of violent extremism and continues to stand behind the armed forces as they strive to restore lasting peace and stability nationwide. He further highlighted that Nigeria, like the United States, recognizes diversity as one of its greatest strengths—a vital element in building a united and resilient nation.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s strong diplomatic ties with the U.S., Mr. Ebienfa expressed optimism that both countries would continue to collaborate in advancing shared values such as peace, democracy, and global stability.
He stated, “The Federal Government has noted the recent statement by the United States of America on religious freedom in Nigeria. We remain committed in our resolve to tackle violent extremism that is fuelled by special interests who have driven decay and division across the West African and Sahel regions. We mourn all the victims of violent extremism and salute our armed forces as they continue to fight against vicious but cowardly foes.”
Mr. Ebienfa concluded by reaffirming Nigeria’s position as a God-fearing nation built on respect for faith, tolerance, and inclusion. He emphasized that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Nigeria remains steadfast in its commitment to peace and partnership with all nations that uphold freedom and democracy.
