SENATOR Aisha Dahiru Binani, the governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2023 general election in Adamawa state, has donated N50 million to the victims of the flood that ravaged Maiduguri and Jere cities, in Borno State.
Senator Binani made the donation when she led a delegation of party leaders, supporters and well-wishers on the sympathy visit to governor Babagana Zulum in Maiduguri on Tuesday.
Binani who described Maiduguri as home, said it’s the connection and humanity that motivated them to come physically and commiserate with the governor and people in the state.
“We pray that such calamity would never befall anyone again, wherever we are.
“We all know through history that the people of Borno State have a high capacity for resilience. We pray to Almighty Allah (God) to make them overcome this tragedy as quickly as possible.
“We also pray to God to have mercy on those that have lost their lives, grant them Aljanna firdaus and comfort their families and loved ones,” she said.
The delegation includes, Ambassador Fatima Balla Abubakar OON, Sen Ahmed Hassan Barata and others.
Responding, Governor Zulum thanked Senator Binani for making it to Maiduguri despite bad weather challenges that prevented her from landing in Maiduguri last Monday.
“Let me inform you that, Senator Binani, on Monday took a flight to Maiduguri but they couldn’t land because of bad weather so they returned back to Abuja.
“On noticing what had happened I called her and said there is no need for you to come back again, but she said Borno is home to her, therefore she must be present to commiserate with us.
“That goes to show the level of fraternity between herself and the good people of Borno State.“ he said.
Zulum therefore appreciated her and the delegation for the sympathy and assured that the money donated would be utilized judiciously.
“You donated a whopping sum of N50 million and be rest assured that the government of Borno State under my distinguished leadership, shall ensure judicious utilization of the fund.
“Yesterday, we constituted a committee and amongst the members we have representatives of ICPC and EFCC to ensure the fund gets to the right individuals.
“For me, Senator Binani is not just a political ally but also a sister to me. I believe many of you here know Dr. Chiroma, and Senator Binani is her mother, so on this note, let me once again welcome you. Thank you for the N50 million donation coming from an individual not the government” he said.
