Fresh Tragedy in Jos as NYSC Member, Another Victim Killed in Reprisal Attack

Tension has worsened in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State after a reprisal attack reportedly claimed the lives of two people, including a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, following the earlier deadly assault on Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba.

The fresh violence comes just hours after the March 29, 2026 attack that left about 30 people dead, throwing the community into grief, fear, and uncertainty.

According to reports, emotions boiled over in the aftermath of the initial killings, as some angry residents allegedly turned on unsuspecting passersby along the Jos-Bauchi highway. That retaliation reportedly led to the death of two people.

One of the victims has been identified as Ibrahim Haruna, a corps member who had only recently gotten married. He was said to be just one day away from completing his national service, with his passing-out date scheduled for Tuesday, March 31.

His death has added an even more painful layer to an already heartbreaking situation, especially for family, friends, and fellow corps members who had been expecting him to round off that chapter of his life peacefully.

The development has further raised concerns about how quickly violence can spiral when communities are left in pain, anger, and fear after deadly attacks.

With tension rising and fears of more retaliation spreading across the area, the Plateau State Government moved swiftly by imposing an immediate 48-hour curfew to contain the situation and prevent more bloodshed.

The curfew is expected to help security agencies regain control, restore calm, and stop the cycle of attack and revenge from deepening further.

What happened in Jos is another painful reminder of how insecurity continues to destroy lives, families, and futures in Nigeria — sometimes in just a matter of hours.
