Fresh Tragedy in Lagos as Passenger Crushed in Ikorodu Road Crash

Barely a day after six people lost their lives in the Ibeju-Lekki auto crash, Lagos was again thrown into mourning on Monday as tragedy struck along Ikorodu Road. One passenger was confirmed dead while several others were injured in a ghastly accident at Idi-Iroko, inward Ogolonto.

Eyewitnesses said the crash happened when a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus (LND 490 SD), trying to outpace traffic from the Agric axis, rammed into a speeding articulated truck (EKY 121 YJ). In the violent impact, a passenger seated at the doorway was flung out and crushed under the rear tyres of the truck.

The accident caused panic inside the bus, with some passengers sustaining bruises as they scrambled for safety. Sadly, two people—a man and a woman—were badly injured and had to be rushed for urgent medical attention.

LASTMA’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that officials worked swiftly with the Lagos State Ambulance Service to rescue the victims, who were taken to Ikorodu General Hospital. The body of the deceased, however, was handed over to his grieving family by the police.

To ease traffic gridlock, LASTMA officials cleared both the bus and the truck from the road. The agency also urged residents to always make use of its toll-free emergency hotline, 080000527862, for prompt intervention during accidents or traffic incidents.
