Ghana Launches CitizenApp to Boost Digital Government Services

THE Ghanaian government has introduced a new app, CitizenApp, aimed at improving communication between citizens and the government, as part of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s broader economic strategy. The app, launched on Monday, is designed to make it easier for citizens to access government services, report issues, and stay informed about public matters.

This initiative is a key step in Ghana’s push for transparency and digital innovation, aiming to streamline government procedures and reduce bureaucracy. Available on both the App Store and Play Store, CitizenApp is expected to revolutionise how Ghanaians interact with the state by offering services such as tax payments, business registration, passport processing, and monitoring.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia highlighted the importance of digitalisation, stating that it has the potential to create jobs, boost the economy, and enhance productivity. ‘We are not going to miss this opportunity to join the ranks of developed countries through digital transformation,’ Bawumia said.

The app follows Ghana’s recent strides towards digital governance. In July 2024, the government launched a mobile app for road maintenance, allowing users to report road issues via GPS, marking another step in the country’s commitment to digitising public services.

With the rollout of CitizenApp, Ghana aims to foster better communication between the public and state institutions, supporting the country’s ongoing industrial and digital revolution.
