Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed deep sorrow over a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of seven residents of Lawanti community in Akko Local Government Area on Saturday.
The victims were reportedly travelling to Maiduguri, Borno State, to attend a wedding ceremony when the crash occurred, turning what was meant to be a joyful journey into a devastating tragedy for the community.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ismaila Misilli, Governor Yahaya described the incident as “painful and devastating,” noting that the loss goes beyond the affected families to the entire Lawanti community and Gombe State as a whole.
The tragedy reportedly struck several families at once and also affected community leaders. Among them was the District Head of Jalingo, Bello Hassan Babangida, who lost his sister and niece. Idris Lawanti Maigari lost his daughter, while the Akko Ward Councillor, Idris A. Isah Lawanti, also lost close relatives in the crash.
“No words can adequately console families who have lost loved ones under such tragic circumstances,” the governor said, adding that the incident had “deeply touched the hearts of all.”
Governor Yahaya prayed for Allah to grant strength and comfort to the bereaved families, forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, and admit them into Aljannatul Firdaus.
